At the beginning of June, I decided to make a change towards healthier living. Slowly, but surely, I'm on a downward trend with my weight and today I hit 20 pounds lost!
I'll tell you the things that have helped me change my mindset - 2 books I read: Made to Crave and Reshaping it All. Both books take a similar approach to weight loss: satisfy your cravings with God, not food. In Reshaping It All, Candace Cameron Bure says:
"The basic plan I suggest is to stop abusing yourself with food, start making healthier choices, and get serious with God. Move more, control your portions, make wise choices, and keep God close by your side. Stick to that plan, and you'll see some results!"
And she's exactly right! That was the plan I decided to go with this time. No counting points, no counting calories, no obsessive diets or crazy exercise. It's the basic "eat less, move more" principle with the addition of "seek God". Eat less...move more...seek God.
A few months of working on this during the summer, and I have the hang of it. I started taking some Zumba classes in the Spring, and again signed up for them this Fall. But I wanted to add something more...
Then, my school hosted a "Wellness Fair" and I met Mindy from Phases Fitness.
Mindy and her husband, Brian, own the gym. It's not "just a gym" though. At Phases, you sign up for appointments (Tuesdays at 4:30 and Saturdays at 9:00 for me!) and if you don't show up - they call you. They notice. There are typically around 5-10 people in the gym working out at a time, and they keep it small on purpose because again, they notice! There is always a trainer available to ask questions, to say "hey that weight looks a little easy, try the heavier one!", or to help in any way.
I never thought I'd say this but...I love going to the gym. It's so refreshing to walk into the gym and be greeted by name, to have someone who checks on my progress and actually cares about how my workouts are going! Plus, everyone I've worked with at Phases are funny, caring, and just plain nice people!!!
In my first 8 weeks at Phases, I'm down 1 pants size and 6 1/2 inches! I am stronger, I have more energy, I sleep better, and I FEEL better. I just started my "2nd Phase" of 8 weeks, so I'll update again in January with my progress!
Lose 20 more pounds. Keep hitting the gym. Keep making healthier food choices. Keep seeking God.
