Peace, Quiet, and Coffee

tuesdays unwrapped at cats

Thanks to a my "Good Morning Girls", I've been encouraged to wake up early and do my quiet time before heading off to work.  This morning, rather than taking my usual seat on the couch in my living room, I took my time outside.  I am no morning person, but there is something spectacular about sitting outside in the morning when the sun is coming up and the birds are chirping away.  I grabbed my coffee, my Bible, and a light blanket and enjoyed my time with God outside!

Collage Art!

I saw this totally awesome and easy collage art on DIY Day with Kimba @ A Soft Place to Land and knew I had to make it!

Don't you LOVE that?
So I gathered my supplies...

And came up with this for my office...

It has tones of black, gray, silver, and white.  It's not perfect...I would change the turquoise strip a little if I did it again.  But overall, it was super cheap ($8 for a canvas on sale at AC Moore...Modge Podge I already had...torn up pieces of magazine!) and really easy!

Wreathapalooza!

Here are few wreaths I've whipped up in the past few months. Clearly, I have too much time on my hands...and a small obsession with ribbon. :-)

Valentine's Day Wreath
Find the tutorial here @ The Nester

Super adorable Spring wreath!

Fabulous Flowers
No tutorial here - I made this one up!  It cost me a total of ZERO DOLLARS!  All I did was go through my scrapbook paper and pick out some color combos.  I then cut 3 different sizes of flower, layered them together, and stapled them to a ring I cut out of cardboard.  Easy!

Summer Fun

This is the original wreath - you can find a tutorial here.

I love the simple bright circle, but I also wanted to add a little something summery!

SHAZAM!

Shazam is just about my favorite app that I have on my phone.  Do you have Shazam?!?  It is an app that 'listens' to a song playing on the radio and then identifies the title and artist.  Best. App. EVER.

It came in especially handy this week when I heard a TON of songs on WJTL that encouraged me!!  So, here's a random post with a list of the new songs I heard this week.

"Castaway" - Chasen (piano + rock = awesome)
I'm overboard, too far from shore
A castaway trying to make it home
I catch my breath to save myself but I can't
In my sight You were just in time
I feel You now You're by my side

"Rediscover You" - Starfield
I want learn to pray the way that David prayed
I want my soul to burn when I hear Your name
I want to feel like new
I want to hunger for You
Bring me back to life like only You can do
Cause I don't want to stay the same

"Hold Us Together" - Matt Maher
It's waiting for you, knockin' at your door
In the moment of truth when your heart hits the floor
When you're on your knees and
  Love will hold us together

"Everything Falls" - Fee
  When everything falls apart
  Your arms hold me together
  When everything falls apart
You're the only hope for this heart
  When everything falls apart
  And my strength is gone
I find You mighty and strong
  You keep holding on

"Take Over" - Aaron Shust
  Can You take over?
  Take over
  Can You take over me?
I've been here over and over again
  Here on my knees
  I'm only closer and closer
  To where I wanna be
When You take over, take over
  Can You take over me?

"Already Home" - Thousand Foot Krutch (gorgeous use of strings in this one)
I'm on my knees cause your everthing I need,
and I've made a mess of myself on my own.
And now I am on my face and I'm calling out your name,
and I wont run away cause I'm already home.

"What It Feels Like" - FFH
(This isn't a "new" song to me, but boy...it makes me cry every single time I hear it.)
And this may not be the road I would choose for me
But it still feels right somehow
And I have never You as close to me as I do right now.
So, this is what it feels like to be led.

"Beautiful Way" - All Star United
She's got more than a few good reasons why she could come undone.
But shes got a hope that inside burning brighter than the sun!

Easy Journal

I'm so excited that a few gal pals and I are going to be Good Morning Girls!  What is a Good Morning Girl?  The Good Morning Girls is a title for a group of women who use email, facebook, texting or twitter to keep each other accountable for their quiet times. The main goal is to be accountable to each other. This is not a mentorship, discipleship or Bible study ministry. We've simply committed to checking in with each other daily.  We say Good Morning and then share what we read in our quiet time.

So, at the suggestion of the GMG founder, I got myself a new notebook!  I took a cheap-o $3 notebook at Target...slapped on some adorable stickers and tabs...and voila!  Adorable notebook!  I'm not a big journaler, but I do like to have a place to jot down my thoughts so I can remember what I want to share with my GMG group, and record how I can be praying for them.

Rainy Day Treat!

Is it just me, or does anyone else think Spring went missing??? What is with the cold/rainy weather? ICK! So I am driving home, cold, and thinking "it's rainy, I probably deserve a treat". (Let's be honest...I could substitute pretty much anything for 'rainy' if it meant justifying a treat..sunny, hot, cold, Monday, 4 o'clock, Friday...)

Being the Weight Watchering gal that I am, I bypassed Sheetz (where said treat would have included 2 pink cookies = EIGHT POINTS) and headed to Starbucks. I got myself a Pike's Place Roast (ZERO!) and my favorite - the Marshmallow Dream Bar.  Did you know this huge hunk of marshmallowey goodness is only 4 points???  It is DELISH!  So for a meager 4 points, I was treated, warmed up, and perked up. YUM!

My Favorite Salsa

I love me some homemade salsa and I want to share my easy and delish recipe with you!  The base of the recipe is from my good friend Laura, and thanks to Anne for reminding me how much I love CILANTRO in my salsa!  I realize some of you have strong feelings about cilantro, but I love it!

The recipe is:
1 large can of whole, peeled tomatoes
1/2 green pepper
1/2 red pepper
1/2 onion
1/2 serrano pepper
1 bunch cilantro
1 tsp each: onion salt, garlic salt, cumin

Ingredients gathered!  I used a yellow pepper in this batch because they didn't have red at the market!  Still yummy!

Put the other half of the peppers and onions into a bag - presto - salsa ingredients for the next batch! (I go through a batch just about every week!)
Spices!  Yum!!!

Tomatoes drained, ready to process!

Adding the cilantro!

TASTE TEST!  If it's not hot enough - add the other half of the serrano pepper!

It's delicious, it's all natural, can be made organically if that strikes your fancy, and it's so easy!  Yum!
